Biography
Charles Colizza is New York based jazz guitarist from Montreal. Winner of the Oscar Peterson Jazz Competition, Charles has recorded and shared the stage alongside jazz legends Billy Drewes, Michael Rodriguez, Alan Ferber, Ron McClure, Chris Hemingway (Sun Ra Arkestra) and Dave Pietro. As a leader, his groups have featured world renowned musicians including Blue Note artist Takuya Kuroda, Stacy Dillard, Matt Lavon, Billy Drewes. He has performed all across North America, from Montreal to California at prestigious venues such as The Montreal International Jazz Festival, Ornithology, Blue Note NYC, Upstairs, Gene Harris Jazz Festival, Tomi Jazz, Ginny’s Supper Club, Marian’s and many others.
Charles is the host of the Monday Night Jam Session at Sour Mouse which features some of NYC’s finest jazz musicians on a weekly basis. He is part of the rotating bands at the Doublé Jam. His debut album Hug The Devil has been featured on international radios such as Radio Canada for an interview segment on “Quand le Jazz Est Là” with Stanley Péan as well as in jazz magazines in the USA (Staccatofy, Jazz Weekly, Take Effect, etc.), Russsia (Jazz Quad) and Canada (Sorties Jazz Nights).
